First ‘Real’ Round in Walhalla
I played the Walhalla disc golf course yesterday for the first real time. That meaning since all the baskets are in the tee pads marked. I shot a 49 with eight birdies and one triple boggie.
The triple was one the hole 10 (I think) where you shoot out of the woods. This particular hole is probable the tightest fairway with a significant drop off to the right. The fairway kind of snakes along with some trees in the middle of the fairway. Think of Seneca’s hole five with two or three trees in the middle of the fairway…just a shorter hole. Once you get out of the woods, the hole sits on a knoll with a decent drop to the right…look for some tournament rolls on this hole in the future.
This course can support someone shooting 15 down on the right day…similar to Timmons…every hole can be deuced…but the wrong whack on a tree can turn a good round ugly right away.
Walhalla will be one of the most beautiful courses in the upstate…there’s a small water fall off of hole 5 and some great tunnel type shots and other with the creek within 15-20 feet behind the hole. While your disc will be recoverable, it won’t be as easy to retrieve a disc from as is the creek in Easley or at Timmons.
I will look to host a tournament at Walhalla this next year.
