Things we will be doing include but are not limited to; cleaning up trash/emptying trash cans, picking up debris/clearing fairways, moving pins (into the long position), build barricades to divert run off away from tee pads, and trimming up the far ways.

The clean up days are being run by Luke Reiser and Aaron Evans.

GODGC Rotating Monthly Singles

2010 Greater Oconee

Rotating Single Series

The general idea:  This series will rotate among Seneca, Walhalla, and Clemson.  We will play the second Sunday (Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are the only scheduling conflicts) of each month.  We will tee off at 10am and play two rounds per day.  There will be beginner, intermediate, advanced, and pro divisions.  During Clemson’s football season we may have to change up the rotation.  We will try to avoid this but if a schedule conflict occurs we will notify players at the previous weeks tourney.   Currently the payout plan is cash for pro and club bucks for beginner, intermediate, and advanced.  The series will be a year long and starts January 10th 2010.

Things we are still figuring out:

·         Cost to play

o   We are thinking pros will pay twice as much as everyone else.  Thus they will get paid more each month and the series payout should be good size.  The remaining cash will go to the series prizes.

·         Points

o   Players will get points for; attendance, CTPs, aces, and each player in there class beat.  We have not worked out the values yet … any suggestions?

·         Bag Tags

o   If you have a bag tag and you play your tag is in.  We are thinking tags will be collected and redistributed by divisions (i.e., you can only win tags from players in your division).

·         Pay outs

o   We are thinking 60-80% of the cash brought in would go back out every month in cash or club bucks.

·          Series prize

o   Options abound here; cash, travel basket, bags, other baskets … etc

·         Food

o   Potlucks?  Club sponsored lunches?  Lunch Jump Up? (i.e., where you jump up and get you own lunch … anyone remember “Club Paradise w/ Robin William)

·         Handicaps?

o   The option of using the system available on Disc Golf U’s web page.

Please give this series some thought and let us know what you think sounds good and what would make it more fun for you.

Cheers, Mike

We Wait till November

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The Seneca City Council met tonight but they didn’t vote on the funding for a new 18 hole Disc Golf course at Shaver Recreation Complex.  A YES vote is expected next month to fund 18 baskets.

A proposal was made a month ago and club members met with several council members at the current Disc Golf course.  We talked with council members about the economic impact that Disc Golf can have on a community and with Seneca becoming of only a handful of communities in the country with two courses in one location.

We had hoped for a vote tonight.  It has been pushed till the November meeting.  We are confident the council will fund the new course.  Mayor Alexander has said there should be no problem with getting the funding.

A design will be done by the club.  With 52+ acres to work with, plans are for a course with most holes having multiple pin placements and duel tee pads.  Our goal is a championship caliber course with a length of at least seven-thousand feet up to a possible 10-thousand feet in length.

With the design we don’t want to just have a long course but have a course that is challenging to the arm, a vision to the eye and mentally simulating.  Needless to say, the design won’t be done quickly but it will be done thoroughly.

Details on funding when the council votes next month.

Walking the land

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

More scouting of land in Seneca and Chua Ram today.  A few of us will be meeting at Shaver Rec in Seneca this morning to once again walk land and share ideas on a course design.

The second course at Seneca’s Shaver Complex has not been approved yet but club members are hopeful that the Seneca City Council will vote to fund an additional 18 baskets when they meet on Tuesday.

If funded, the course would have 52+ acres of land to work with.  The land that would be used as nice elevation  changes, a creek that rolls through, some old growth oak trees and lots of scrub pine trees.

The land was once used to harvest pine and there are still some logging trails/road cut through the property.  Hopes are that the old roads can either be used as fairways or to transition between holes.

Once approval for the course is granted, we’ll post the information here.

Play with a Councilmen/Women

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

On Monday evening at 6pm, the Seneca City Council will be playing a 9 hole loop at Shaver Recreation Center. The club is hoping to have enough members available to play/coach with each member of council.

On October 12th the finance committee of the City Council will be considering whether or not to recommend they fund an additional 18 baskets for a second course in Seneca. It’s important that we represent Disc Golf in the best possible light.

Not only can this lead to another course in Seneca, it can lead to increase funding for Disc Golf Tournaments in the future.

Please let Mike Weirda or Adam Wright know if you’ll be able to make it on Monday.
