State Juniors in Oconee County

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The South Carolina State Juniors Disc Golf tournament is being hosted in Oconee County.  The tournament, just for kids and teens, will be Saturday, April 3rd, at Setoma Field in Walhalla.  If you register before the 15th of March you’ll get a t-shirt, lunch and disc for only $10.00!

You can go here for the registration form.

If you child has never played before, don’t let that scare you or them away.  Most of the kids that will play are first time players.  It’s more about getting kids involved in a lifetime sport that is inexpensive and fun to play.

The event is being hosted by Reigning Woman’s United State National Champion Sarah Stanhope.  She is currently the 3rd ranked women’s player in the world.  She’s a high school science teacher in Easley.

I’ve signed up my 4 and 5 year-old.  It will be their first time playing.  I hope to see you April 3rd in Walhalla.

January Rotating Singles Results

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

While the weather was cold and rainy we had some dedicated die hards out there huckin it up.  We had a total of 10 people show for our first round (i.e., January round) of our inaugural Greater Oconee Disc Golf Rotating Singles Series  (GODG-RS)!  We had a good time and nearly everything went off w/ out a hitch.  We are hoping to see everyone at the Feburary round (2/21-10).  No changes to starting timeWe have modified the payout plan slightly.  What we changed is that we as a club will keep track of the GODG Club Bucks out and in.  We will continue to do this unless it becomes a pain the in @$$ for us.  We have decided to do this to hopefully avoid lost money by people losing their club bucksI have not figured out how to post the results here in an organized fashion. So please go to this link which to view the results.

Course Design Progress

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We have meet w/ the Seneca mapping department this past weekend.  With the help of Lisa Simmering and her boss we have found and marked important property lines on the east side of the property.  We have not bothered w/ the west side because the areas we need to avoid should be clearly marked from a Habitat for Humanity project that is planned. We are going to be talking w/ the Seneca street dept next about having them bulldoze some clearings to the west of holes 1-4 of the old course for the start and finish of the new course and removal of some dead trees on the old course and the flooding problem on 15.

Baskets on order

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

The baskets for the new 18 at Shaver Recreation Complex in Seneca have been paid for.  I heard from Innova on Monday, December 28th that the check has arrived and the baskets are now paid for in full.Innova is waiting on the GODG club’s go ahead before shipping the baskets.  The design team is in place with Luke Reiser taken the lead on the new design.  Other members of the design team include Aaron Evans, Adam Wright, Sarah Stanhope and Gary Savercool.Design work in earnest begins after the new year.  Several members of the club and the design team have walked the property and have ideas to share.  Innova has even indicated that they might send a team to Seneca to walk the property and give some insight. The goal is to get something ready by March so baskets have somewhere to go.  Understand that a ‘final’ design could be a while away.

Design for new Seneca course

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

GODG met on Monday night over Pizza to discuss the new Singles Series in Oconee County and the design for the new 18 at Shaver Recreation Complex. There is a post about the single series else where on this site. Mike Weirda is the organizer and three club members will be handling the different course events.

A group has been put together to work on the new course design. It includes Luke Reiser, Aaron Evans, Adam Wright, Sarah Stanhope and Aaron Cunningham. The group is working with the mapping department at the City of Seneca to flag areas. The Seneca Street Department will help with some bulldozing different areas.

More details to come.
